Extreme Couponing fraud ?

Although this may not be new news to many folks out there, my mother was watching the local news this evening as I was cleaningup the kitchen and she said that a woman was arrested for stealing coupons. I googled it and found it was a story from about a week ago. The woman is denying the charges but she could face a $4,000 fine and a year in jail if found guilty.

The story: Coupon Thief: Texas Woman Arrested for Stealing Coupons

The other story I ran across is a good bit more interesting. (Again, an old story but new to me) It appears that a woman that appeared on TLC's Extreme Couponing show may have been using UPC decoding as a method of matching coupons to sales . I never knew such a method existed and I was amazed that many seasoned couponers caught still shots of the show as "evidence"(?)

Get that story here: Was coupon fraud shown on TLC's Extreme Couponing?

And I thought the mom making her kid dumpster dive was bad. (well, yeah that one still tops it in my book)

Oh, by the way...there is a great $5 off coupon for the new DVD release of RANGO. Get it while it lasts! Rango coupon

Check out this Sunday's coupons!

According to the SundayCouponPreview there will be some pretty decent coupons coming out this week. I highlighted and printed the list so that even if they don't show up in my local paper I know I should be able to find them online for about ten cents on the dollar. Next I will highlight the items on the list I printed, while I check my local Sunday inserts against it, so I know if it is worth my time and money to buy extra papers.

I use the newpapers to hold back weeds in my garden. I add a layer of CLEAN straw on top. The ones that aren't shiny are printed with a soy based ink and at the end of the season they are tilled under.

I'm a very busy mom/daughter and I often find myself shopping for two households so I have to be on my game when it comes to saving a buck here and there. I take every 'not completely exhausted' moment to find as much information as possible on saving as much as I can. Today I found out that applying for a WalMart credit card could save me $20 on my $100 purchase. Since I was prepared to pay cash anyway...I also plan to pay the bill in full as soon as it hits me. I hate paying interest ~ It defeats the purpose!

Saving time and money on coupons

One thing I have learned early in my coupon dealing exploration is that there are sad coupons (25 cents off) that can always be found for certain categories and some great coupons ($1-$3 0ff) that come out when a new item hits the shelves. There are coupons that expire within 30 days (usually in your Sunday paper) and other coupons that may not expire for 6 months or more. (usually in magazines and on manufacturers sites)

One thing is for sure ~ while you are chilling out with your fave TV show around the middle of the month...rid your stockpile of expired coupons and try to organize your new ones. The trouble and headache it will save you when you have that extra time to find a deal will make all your effort seem so worthwhile.

Call for your interest free agreement!

If you have a store credit card ~ you often receive a promotion in the mail (email or snail mail,)for 6 or 12 months interest free credit on any purchase of XXX.XX dollars.

You are out and about doing your daily shopping and you neglect to take your promotion print-out or snail-mail card with you. If you ask the cashier about the promotion, they may only be able to offer you 6 months without interest but after returning home you may find an offer for 12 months without interest for the same $$ purchase... pick up the phone...or send an email and nail that deal!

Most stores with credit customers aren't going to argue the promotion and every bit of leverage you have to play with your budget is always a plus!

Extreme Couponing Show...Is it really a threat ?

Couponing has become the new rave since the TV show EXTREME COUPONING hit the aire. Even though many couponing sites have been featured on daytime TV shows in the past...nothing ever created such a wave of excitement like Extreme Couponing has.

Many have thought "The show is going to ruin couponing for the rest of us"... I thought the same at first because I was only an occassional coupon user until the gas prices put a huge dent in my budget.

Now, I have a different perspective.

MOST people that have found that they can get something for free or at an extreme discount are just plain lazy (unlike those on the TV show). They pose no threat in the long run. They will play the game for a while but when they find their collection of coupons overwhelming and a REAL JOB to keep up with...they will fade back into their world of online games and social addictions and soon give up the trouble of saving a buck on their anti-itch or headache meds.

These people amount to the many I have seen through the years...they plant a garden every spring...get up at noon and decide it is too hot outside to pull the weeds.

Fear not ~ even though many new couponers may be born...most will never be extreme (I'm not...nor will ever be) and very soon the many of us that put forth an effort to save every month will find some good coupons still available again online.

Not likely to shop there again!

Since the day our local Family Dollar opened I have been a patron there. (MANY years!) Yesterday I was suprised to leave the store feeling that my business was not appreciated.

The store has done some extensive remodeling and had a "Grand Re-Opening" coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase (no requirements listed). I purchased $26 worth of merchandise and paid for $10 of it with coupons. When I handed the cashier their own store coupon for $5 off and it would not scan she asked her supervisor why and they stated that my total was no longer $25 so they could not accept the coupon. WHAT?? I reminded them that no such stipulation was on the coupon and I shouldn't be penalized because I used manufacturers coupons to PAY for part of my purchase. The supervisor stated..."That's just the way it is...sorry" I told her I was sorry too because she was going to have to put the entire purchase back. As I exited the store I noticed a sign ~ "We honor manufacturers coupons" and couldn't help but state out loud "Sure you do!"

If this store did not have such a quick turn-around of employee's ~ the problem may have been resolved. (my years of patronage appreciated)

Set up a different email account for couponing

Without a doubt...you will want to set up a different email account dedicated to couponing. Even though there are many free coupon printing websites out there ...there are numerous times you will find yourself needing to sign up for a specific manufacturers newsletter to get a coupon you want.

To date I really haven't had to deal with much spam but in the event it becomes a problem I will at least know I can mass delete without worry that my household business will be in the deletion.

Coupon Deals ~ It doesn't always work out

One thing I have found out is that many deals you find online aren't always available locally. The national stores may advertise a deal on a product that isn't carried locally.

One such deal this week at my local Walmart was the Nivea Mens Body Wash. It was a good coupon according to CouponMom.com (free at Walmart) but my local Walmart doesn't carry the product, and to top it off...the Sunday paper didn't offer the coupon...big bummer!

I did manage to get the coupon but I now have 11 days to find the item offered locally. Such stress to get a great deal!

Tide for $2.64!

I was at Rite Aid yesterday and they had 40 load Tide powder on sale for $5.99 and on the box was a Rite Aid coupon for $3.00 off. Combined that with the recent Sunday coupon for 35 cents off and the cost per load will be about 7 cents! Oh happy day :-)

Free sample of coffee!

Thanks so much Proctor & Gamble!

I have been a big fan of P&G products for as long as I can remember ~ but since the rising cost of everything has cut a big hole in my budget I have become an even bigger fan!

Most folks would think - "just buy a cheaper product"...that's a hard egg for me to swallow though and thankfully since I've been dedicating so much of my time to couponing ~ P&G has made it so easy for me to remain a loyal customer!

The first Sunday paper of every month is loaded with P&G coupons and to top it off, many stores run P&G deals where you can find the items on sale and get a boost if you buy a certain dollar amount of the products.

Then, to top it off ~ if you sign up for their numerous promotions on their website you can get some GREAT coupons and samples delivered straight to your mailbox!

I love P&G!

Don't forget the clearance isle!

One thing every serious couponer must remember is to check the clearance sales in stores. Today I found two boxes of Nice & Easy haircolor - regularly priced at $9.99 for $3.33 - and one box of Clairol Natural Instincts haircolor - regularly priced at $8.99 for $2.99. I had a coupon for each for $1 off.

Scanning local deals

One way to save even more when you are shopping locally is to sit down at the computer and try to find printable coupons online for weekly store sales.

For example, this week my local Walgreens is advertising Garnier products on sale for 4/$10 (with the $4 register reward on next purchase)so I went to the Coupons.com web site and printed 4 coupons for $1.00 off Garnier shampoo/conditioner and the style products. Making my final cost $1.50 each. ( as long as I use the rewards on my next purchase )

After making my purchase I will scan the store for unadvertised deals and see if I can put some of my other coupons to use with my register reward before leaving.

Get paid to watch video's!

I just completed an online survey at riteaid.com about my recent visit and received a coupon for $3 off my next purchase. Then I watched a Rite Aid video about their Wellness+ program and received another coupon for $1 off my next purchase.

If you aren't a Wellness+ member yet you can register online and print a temporary card.

There are lots of coupons to be earned on their Video Values site so while you are having that cup of coffee in the morning why not earn some coupons for future sales. You can save the coupons online until you are ready to use them. Some may even get you a free item once it goes on sale. :-)

You Snooze...You lose!

AIR WICK Aerosols - Fresh Waters: 8 OZ #6233877002I had a feeling that I should have hit the Rite Aid sales earlier. Although I had not yet run across another serious couponer in the stores yet...I knew they were out there. Last night I ran into two of them at my local Rite Aid. I had just beat them to the last 3 cans of Air Wick air freshener.(FREE) Unfortunately, someone/everyone else beat me to the Therma Care heat wraps. (ALSO FREE)

In any case, I did pretty fair between the sale price on items and the coupons I had for them. The total cost (not including tax) of everything I bought would have had a regular retail value of $123.61 ~ I paid $80.21 ~ then used $23.57 in coupons bringing my out of pocket expense (with tax) to $60.68. BUT, I also recieved several Rite Aid +UP Rewards totaling $11.00 (towards any future purchase) and this morning I registered my receipt for an additional $13.00 single check rebate. With the rebates being a sure thing, the total cost of this trip was $47.68. Saved - $75.93!

My best buys:

3 Air Wick air fresheners - on sale B1G1 free - I had 3 coupons for the same - ALL FREE!

Miracle Ice - regular retail $6.99 - Rebate for $6.00 - cost .99

No Doze - (momma needs help sometimes) retail $6.99 - Rebate for $6.00 - cost .99

Lysol All Purpose Cleaner - on sale 2/$4 - had coupon for $1 off 2 - rebate for $1 - cost $1 each

Before leaving I made sure to get a rain check on the heat wraps. Now, I have to watch the sales between now and March 26 so I can cash in my $11.00 in up rewards. No problem :-)

Don't throw away those expired coupons!

Military men & women can use coupons that have expired for up to 6 months after the expiration date!  Visit Grocery Saving Tips for more info.

I think that is sooo great and just had to share it with everyone.

My best deals this week!

I could hardly believe my eye's when I saw the back page of KMarts weekly circular this past Sunday....Double Coupons up to $2.00!  I thought I would find people with coupons all over the store when I got there this past Monday but I never saw anyone looking through their coupons.

Even though KMart had a limit of 5 coupons to be doubled ...who can't use an extra $10?

I used four $2 off coupons for Gillette body wash for my son.  They were regularly priced at $4.59.  Once Kmart doubled my coupons...total cost was .59 cents!

A large bag of Kibbles & Bits dog food was on sale for $10  (regular price $14+) and I had a $2 coupon for that ...making it cost $6!

I really wish I had some more $2 coupons to make it worth another trip.  Oh well, maybe next time!

What? ~ You don't care about free money?

OK ~ I just started "couponing" again since the cost of gas and every stinking thing I need or use has gone through the roof!

Remember our last gas price scare? ("Drill Here..Drill Now!") Well, I played around with coupons then but never got serious about them. I found other profitable outlets and pretty much gave it/coupons up.

But a few weeks ago I caught a show on TV about some "Super Couponers" and I have to say... I started wondering again... and collecting again.  This time... much more organized!

After taking the advice and putting it to the test...my savings on one trip (on things I might/or normally buy) amounted to :

KMART -
                             ~ MC : $20.37
+DBL CPN SALE                9.00
                                __________
total saved                         $29.37 (off a $46.59 purchase)

To sweeten the pie ...a coupon was printed for $10 off my next $10 purchase the following week! (FREE $10 in merchandise) Total trip value - $39.37 - making my total expense for this trip $7.22 (provided I cash in my $10 coupon next week)

To add some advice...you must make sure the cashier scans your KMART rewards card before scanning even one item to get the rewards doubles!

This is only the savings on one "coupon trip" I made in a week... I saved BIG and I can't wait to show how! Stay tuned!
